Have you been thinking about scheduling family portraits? Fall is the perfect time to get it done.
Most families have their portraits made every 2-3 years. Some every year. The most favorite times of the year for families are Spring and Fall.
Reasons for Fall Portraits (as if you need reasons)
-The weather is cooler
– the colors pallets are very complementary and cozy
– and let’s just face it, fall outfits are the best.
Here in Central Oklahoma you know we cannot predict the weather, although our local meteorologists do a pretty great job. But usually October is a beautiful month that can offer up some nice fall color if it doesn’t get too windy first.
Having your family photographed in the fall gives plenty of time to choose your favorites images and have beautiful portraits back to enjoy for the holidays.
Timing and Scheduling Most professional photographers are booking sessions at least 4-6 weeks in advance. So for that mid-October weekend you should be scheduling by the beginning to middle of September. And remember to have your ordering complete by beginning of November if you would like to have your portraits back before the holidays.
All of our family sessions come with a complimentary consultation at our studio, so go ahead and call us now to schedule your consult and we will help you pick the perfect date and location for your session.
Coordinating your Outfits Fall outfits are fun! Sweaters, scarves, boots and all the cozy fall fabrics. The colors of fall are gorgeous and tend look great in most every home. Gone are the days when familes wear the exact colors in portraits. Colors should coordinate with each other and with the location you choose. Muted earth tones look classy with the woody browns of the trees and weathered wood barns. Warm reds and oranges are beautiful against the yellowing leaves and pumpkins.
Bringing some accessories like scarves, mittens and hats, can offer some fun looks for a few of the casual images great for an album. For a family portrait that will look great on your wall for years you might consider dressing in a more neutral year round style. Check out our pintrest for some suggestions on fall colors and styles.
Locations are important Our studio has a beautiful portrait garden, large mature trees, a beautiful weathered wood barn and paths with leaves. Families enjoy having their session here with close access to the indoor studio (restrooms) and changing rooms. But we also love going on location. Does your family land have a pond, barn or tall golden grasses? There are also several area parks with trails, Lake Hefner or in front of your family home. Finding a place that has special meaning to you will help make your portraits more meaningful to your family.
How to use your Family Portraits You have planned, shopped, gotten everyone to the studio for the photo session but now what? Photographs are meant to be enjoyed and shared. During your sales appointment we will take all of your favorites images and help you create prints that you can actually enjoy! Make Holiday cards to send out to extended family and friends. Small prints like 5×7’s and 8×10’s make excellent gifts for Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles.
Most families choose a wall portrait or a few to display in their home. Why buy generic art from a big box store when you can decorate your home with custom art of the people you love, after all you worked hard to get everyone dressed and photographed. And show off your beautiful family and fun side by putting all of those super casual images of your family laughing and hugging in album to keep on your coffee table.
Most of all have fun! Come to the session relaxed and bring your ideas. Family portraits are something to cherish and it’s fun to make memories with those we love.
